If you had read my last blog post you would have seen in my photo that I was currently reading Fearne Cotton 'Calm'.
Well, around 15 minutes ago I read the final pages and felt a complete inner peace. Essentially, the book is fabulous and it deserves to be shouted about!
I had never read a book by Fearne Cotton but her style of writing and way with words is truly amazing. She explores deep into topics that affect and improve our calm and stillness and what we can do to improve or maintain this, depending on your own circumstances.
A word that really stood out to me throughout this helpful guide was the word 'Chaos'. Fearne explores the way in which we are all living in chaos and completely forgetting about our calm moments and taking time out for ourselves... Chaos is different for everybody as we all have our own individuality and quirks but, we do tend to be all in agreement with certain concepts deemed as chaotic!
For example, my chaos could be spending a jam packed day in London on the tubes, concerts and filled shopping centres like Selfridges. Although this is good for the soul occasionally I think a lot of us could all agree that we have a similar concept of 'chaos' as always being busy and non - stop.
Fearne notes that it is important to recognise where the chaos is in your life and finding the perfect balance whilst also finding a way to switch off and wind down from this.
Alongside Fearne's knowledge she also brings in many of her good friends throughout to give an insight on topics that Fearne believes could help guide the reader further with, in an interview style. The likes of Reggie Yates and Russel Brand feature in these segments. It definitely helped by knowing who these guys are as it brings a voice in your mind and a face to the words. Their words come to life more and you can see reasonings to their thought processes, having known some of their previous work and experiences.
Some topics within the book weren't aimed to me. For example, being 'calm' as a Mother. Although I didn't have much recognition with the topic I still dipped into a few of the subheadings in this topic to enlighten me for general life advice and maybe future self help!
There are chances throughout to write and reflect after each topic, guided breathing techniques and fantastic water colour illustrations. I did not write in my book, as I couldn't allow myself to do that with any book. However, I did make mental notes after each 'chapter' and really took my time with reflecting on what I had read which is such a great way to soak it all in.
The book took me a while to read just because I see these kind of books as a 'now and again' book. I like to take my time and taking things in little by little. However, saying that, I did read the other half in around a day. This is simply because I have been drawn to it recently and wanted to get all the life advice I could at this current time.
Overall, the book is an absolute 10/10. With a great variety of topics, manifestation tips and guidance it really does help you find your inner calm thanks to Fearne's brilliant way of words and wisdom.
I really enjoy reading this style of book and it reminded me a lot of Vex King 'Good Life Good Vibes' which, if you like that too then this is a definite good read for you!
Fearne has written other books similar to this 'Happy' and 'Quiet' which I shall be ordering very soon!
I have recently found out about a website called https://www.hive.co.uk that helps independent book stores sell their books. I will be using this more than Amazon, especially at this time when it is so important to promote small businesses.
